Dental restorations including dental crowns, bridges, and implants can be designed and made using CADCAM technology, a computerised manufacturing system. These restorations are designed and made with extreme precision and accuracy using computer technology and software.
In order to manufacture the restoration, a dental impression of the patient’s mouth is often obtained and sent to a dental laboratory. The restoration is then hand crafted by a dental technician from a block of material, a process that might take days or even weeks to complete.
Compared to conventional manufacturing techniques, CADCAM technology is quicker and more accurate. With CADCAM technology, the restoration is created using specialised software after a digital impression of the patient’s mouth is taken. A computer-controlled milling machine can build the restoration in a couple of minutes after receiving this digital design.
In comparison to conventional manufacturing techniques, CADCAM technology can also generate restorations that are more precise and consistent. Traditional manufacturing techniques have a chance for human error, while the digital design and manufacture process does not. As a result, the patient’s mouth can accommodate the restorations more easily and with less need for modification.
Overall, the production process for dental restorations using CADCAM technology is quicker, more accurate, and more reliable. Less time is spent in the dental chair while yet getting better-quality restorations that are more comfortable for the patient.
